One thing I am pretty sure of, though, is that rape is not a core belief of Islam. It being okay for men to take foreign women captured in battle as slaves (so they don't starve?) and rape them must only be a by-the-way bit of early Islamic theology of the body, meant to keep men on the Arabian peninsula from raping anyone they could get their hands on. Oh well, it's not my job to be an apologist for Islam, but I am sure the nice modern Muslim girls I knew in Canada would have a decent explanation.Mrs McLeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18095035617334068201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-670426779858438488.post-32564728702428935372014-10-15T21:27:15.500+01:002014-10-15T21:27:15.500+01:00But according to the teachings of Mohammed, rape o...But according to the teachings of Mohammed, rape of non-believers is a laudable act and the right of a Muslim man. That belief will never change without Islam changing its core beliefs.Steve T.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02887043259071906836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-670426779858438488.post-62627434140478472052014-09-22T20:25:44.161+01:002014-09-22T20:25:44.161+01:00Oh, yes, I still think "woman trumps race&quo...Oh, yes, I still think "woman trumps race" when it comes to anything having to do with personal safety. Getting into a car with any stranger is a calculated risk, and if part of my calculations include the reputation of British Pakistani cab drivers, that might be sad, but that's the way it's going to be--at least until all classes of men in the so-called "Muslim world" sincerely believe that rape is always wrong. On your ...Re: Your question about racial profiling. On your Seraphic Singles blog you said at at least one point that 'Woman trumps race. Woman trumps everything except child.' (Not an exact quote, but as closely as I can remember.) Wouldn't that apply here?

I think that perhaps as long as you don't tell the person directly why you aren't getting in their cab, etc. it's okay to racially profile as much as you like when it comes to matters of safety. After all, we teach children not to talk to ANY strange adult, because some of them might be dangerous.

Personally, if I were a good Pakastani man trying to make an honest living as a cabbie, I would be sad if a woman didn't feel safe getting into my cab, but I would rather that she was looking out for her safety than not.

Plus, another random thought-The Isreali airport security teams use racial profiling with great success. Sometimes the risk really is higher among people of a certain race.

I hope this doesn't sound terribly uncharitable. :P My thoughts are still kind of half-formed on this topic.
